A family history of high blood pressure and diabetes increases the risk of kidney diseases. The presence of too much protein in your urine is one of the main reasons for kidney failure. Increase your Intake of Healthy Fluids

The thumb rule to keep your kidneys healthy is to increase your intake of healthy fluids. Make sure you drink at least 1.5 to 2 liters of water every day. However, the quantity of water you need to drink depends on a number of factors such as your age, physical activity, gender, climate, and health conditions. Install a water purifier to ensure that you drink clean and contaminant-free water. Consuming plenty of fluids helps your kidney clear sodium, urea, and other toxins, thereby lowering your risk of developing kidney problems.

If you have a family history of high blood sugar, you need to be extra cautious. Almost half the people who have diabetes have a risk of developing kidney diseases. This is the reason why it is essential to ensure that you keep a check on your blood sugar level. If you already have diabetes, make sure you go for regular tests to keep a check on your kidney function. Kidney damage caused by high blood sugar can be prevented if you detect it early.

Eat Healthily

Your kidneys can tolerate your eating habits to a certain extent. However, after a certain period of time, your kidneys may find it difficult to hold up to your unhealthy eating habits. To avoid any such complications, follow healthy and moderate eating habits to keep your weight in check. Avoid eating junk foods that are high in carbohydrates and unhealthy fats. Include a lot of green vegetables and fruits in your diet for healthy kidneys.

Be Active

One of the main reasons for excessive weight gain, which results in high blood pressure and sugar level is lack of exercise. Regular physical exercise ensures that you don’t gain weight. However, you also need to be careful about the intensity of the exercises, especially if you are not physically fit. Overexerting can put your kidneys at risk and lead to excessive breakdown of muscle tissue.

This is the reason why you need to take proper steps to avoid medical conditions such as high BP and blood sugar levels, which put a strain on your kidneys.
